I have a painting that I love and it has no artist signature or title. All I found was a mark in the lower left margin of the painting consisting of a "T" and a "P" crossed.
The signature/mark can be seen here http://www.flickr.com/photos/18125976@N07/3321260211/ and the painting can be seen here http://www.flickr.com/photos/18125976@N07/3321260141/ |

I recognize that as a famous painting, but I can't recall the artist right now. I tried googling some of the more famous British portrait artists (Romney, Gainsborough, Kneller, Joshua Raynolds, etc.), but I wasn't able to find anything that close. I'm starting to think it's German or maybe Dutch.

Greetings,
The style of clothing and hair does not look Victorian (does it have a date on it somewhere?). When I saw the image, I thought of Fragonard (at least his generation) - but of course Googling didn't bring up your image. http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists...an-honore.html Look at some of Fragonard's work and see if that places the portrait in his time period. Then look at the work of some of his contemporaries. I have no idea what the two letters might mean. I am not an "expert" - just a retired art teacher with a passion for art. Regards, Judy Decker |
