Default Request Bio for Virgil Johnson

Does anyone know about a landscape painter named Virgil Johnson? I'd like to get a bio if possible. I purchased a beautiful landscape painting by Virgil Johnson from a gallery in Columbus Ohio (now long-gone). Gallery had no information about the artist; owner thought the artist was from NY and the painting a landscape of upstate NY countryside (not verified). I've found no information about the artist in several searches over the years, but I'd love to get some biographical information about the artist (signed his painting in very legible black brush-strokes; so, I don't have any question about the correct artist name.) Anyone have any information?

Thanks in advance!

Virgil Johnson was born in 1935 in Strathcoma, Minnesota--was introduced to the use of oils at the age of l9. After finishing his education, he commenced traveling throughout theU nited States in search of unusual forest and water scenes to paint in his now recognized impressionistic (bordering on realistic) oil paintings.

While residing in California, he studied under the late William H. Yellend, world renowned restorationist. Under his guidance a continued love for the masters Rueben, Rembrandt and Monet grew and left their mark on his work.

Mr. Johnson spent several years in Tennessee where the beauty of the land is reflected as he continues to paint pastoral scenes.

You will find his paintings hanging in many prominent design firms, corporate offices and respected homes throughout the nited States.

Default request for bio on VirgilJohnson

I really can't add to the bio info request but might be able to lead you to someone who can.
I purchased a painting by Johnson 3 years ago at a gallery in the Heights section of Little Rock, AR. I believe the gallery is owned by Susan Huart(e). She had several of his paintings for sale. She also had a catalog with other paintings which she could obtain.
Last year I stopped back in the gallery. At that time she told me he was quite ill.
Good luck.

Default Thank You for the Reference

Dear Jmlumley,

Can you give me the name of the Gallery in Little Rock, AR? I'd certainly like to follow-up with the gallery owner. In fact, I'll be in Little Rock in October and would like to drop in if I can locate the Gallery.

Thank you again for your assistance.

Kind regards, Lon

Smile Painting collector

I have many of Virgil Johnson's painting, many are 30 to 40 years old. I also have a knife painting by Virgil that I treasure as he has not done but a few of them over the year's. I have been collecting them for at least 40 years, and all of mine are original oils. I am related to Virgil by marriage, He is in not the best of health, but is still painting and I see him occasionally, I am sure if you or anyone is interested in a painting or print I will be glad to put you in touch with him. I can be contacted at lquattlebaum@hotmail.com

I too own a Virgil Johnson painting that I bought in 2002 at Eileen's Gallery on Rodney Parham Road in Little Rock, AR. The gallery is now closed. I was given a bio on Mr. Johnson when I purchased the painting. The information given in the June 23, 2009 post is printed in the boigraphy I received.

I would be interested in adding to my collection if anyone knows where his paintings are currently being sold.

Thank you.

Valerie

Virgil Johnson's paintings are currently displayed at the Elite Gallery of Fine Art, 1001 Hwy 25 B North in Heber Springs, AR. The gallery just opened this week and we have many of Virgil's beautiful paintings on diplay. If you would like to know what paintings are currently available I can send you a e-file attachment with pictures of paintings available.
