Default Help with mystery Old Master painting

I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on this painting.

This painting originally came from Venice to the U.S. in the late 1800's. My mother had inherited it many years ago. It is an original painting and I believe it was painted in the late 1400's and the artist is probably from the northern part of Italy since that is where the painting originated from. It appears to be a religious painting and the signature is either not on the painting or obscured. A rumor comes with this painting: that it was part of a larger painting in Venice and cut down in the 1800's.

In the 1970's, an appraiser had looked at it and authenticated its age, however, there is no written documentation on this.

If anyone can help identify it, I would be most appreciative. We are looking to sell this painting and, perhaps, someone could advise us on how to go about this.
