we have had this 'painting' in our house as long as I can remember, but it isn't a real painting. It appears to be a print that was cleverly applied to a board and made to look 'old' - that was more than 40 years ago.
I'd like to know what it is called and who painted it. From the flag on the side of the house I'm guessing it is Dutch. Perhaps it is a Breughel? If any member can help I would be most grateful. |

Okay, this is weird... I don't particularly recognize the painting, but I do believe I recognize one of the characters in it. The woman in blue at the bottom left. I'll think about it and see if I can figure out where I have seen her before.

this woman in the blue dress appears to be escorted by the man on her left. Behind here are two female attendants (or they may be her daughters). A young boy holding a whippet or greyhound is also part of the group.
It seems odd that this aristocratic family or group feels compelled to mix with the commoners of the village. With the orange flag flying, perhaps it is the birthday of the Dutch monarch they are celebrating? |

Feast day or a wedding or a celebration of some kind. Here are a couple of Dutch paintings from the 1500s that have the same type of standard being flown:
