Hello. Has anyone heard of the Gerli Collection in Milan? And does anyone have any contact information for them (either e-mail, or snail mail)?
They once had a Giambattista Tiepolo painting titled Venere allo specchio (1725), and while the latest Tiepolo complete works volume (2002) still locates it in the Gerli Collection, Milan, another slightly earlier Tiepolo book states that it was "formerly in the Gerli Collection, Milan." I'd like to determine its whereabouts for sure. If anyone has any further information about this painting, or about the Gerli Collection, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. |

Have you tried google for art galleries? Your question aught my eye, I recentley inherited a painting, I have no info on the artist, just the name GERLI. I am trying to find out when this was painted and where the artist is from.....could it be a different GERLI? tanya@storm.ca

No. The name "Gerli" in "Gerli Collection" refers not to an artist, but to to a certain Count Gerli -- the owner. As far as I can tell, it is a private art collection.
I'm just curious if anyone knows whether (a) this collection is viewable by the public, and if so, where in Milan it is located (if it is indeed Milan), and (b) whether the painting I mentioned is still a part of it, and if not, what has become of it. |

I'm just returning to this thread in case anyone has any information now, several years later.
This, by the way, is the painting that I have in mind: http://www.judgmentofparis.com/pinac.../tiepolo03.htm I've seen it reproduced in images both the way it is on that page, and reversed (mirrored), but I think the orientation on the linked page is correct. If anyone knows anything about the "Gerli Collection" in Milan, and if and where it might be viewable, I'd be most appreciative. |
