Hi, I own a large landscape dated 1914 that appears to be by a competent, confident Post-Impressionist style artist, but I cannot read the signature for the life of me. If anyone can tell me who it is, or even give me a close enough reading of the signature that I eventually track it down and confirm it on my own, I'll send them a nice present. TIA, John.

Hi john. I get it after two hours!
It is the signature (almost sure) of the swedish painter Axel Peter 1863-1942 http://www.bukowskis.se/bilder/0550_stor/05500831.jpg |

OMG, thank you! I'm sure you're correct. I have a big database of artists and must have briefly considered him at some point, but he signs his first name bizarrely. Unfortunately his paintings don't seem to sell for a lot.
Send an email to jmalyon at my other domain, artcyclopedia.com, and I'll reciprocate with a thank-you gift. John. |

P.S. I don't have a great picture of the painting, but here's one that's a little overexposed. I can see the
similarities, but personally I like this more than any of his other works I was able to find online. ![]() |
