Help with black velvet paintings

The pictures have been in my family since before I was born. But even with that in consideration, I know very little, if anything, about them. The frames appear to be original and there is a tear in part of the canvas on one of the paintings. It is signed in the lower left corner of both AL. Other than that, I know nothing else. Can anyone help me at all with identifying anything to do with the pictures and who AL is or might be?
