I have a print. It says, "N. Robert del et sculp" on one side and "Auec priuil du Roy 1673" on the other. Do you know anything about the history of these? Are they valuable?

The second phrase is French, short for "Avec Privilege du Roy". It's found on a lot of prints from this era, but I don't know exactly what it signifies. Something about being permitted or endorsed by the king.

About the "privilèges" I did not look particularly for those in the domain of engraving but the first paragraph of this text about books is available, although concerning a different century
http://library.oxfordjournals.org/cg...ct/s5-IV/4/225 An so is this one about musical works. paragraph 2 http://goods.us.marketgid.com/goods/150375/ For the print itself, the author is probably the following, but you have to know if you own an original or a copy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolas_Robert Last edited by saintmarc : January 16th, 2010 at 07:52 PM. |

On the baki of the frame it has a stamp with NRA on it and a portion of a register number. Where could I get more information on this? |
