Question Anyone heard of Tosi?

I have a 24x48 painting of Tosi. It is a painting of the Brooklyn Bridge, anyone ever heard of him or seen his work?

Hi Dayi20,

I too have a 24x48 painting by what appears to be the same artist. I've been looking into the possibility that it may be an Italian artist by the name of Arturo Tosi. I've had one appraiser in New York affirm that assumption. But then I've also gotten one other appraiser in Baltimore who wasn't so sure. He suggested I contact Christie's or Sotheby's since they would possibly have more direct connection with the sale of this particular suspected artist.

I did contact Christie's and they didn't come up with anything—either for or against the Arturo Tosi premise. More recently I've attempted contacting two auction houses in Italy who were selling Arturo Tosi paintings. Both of them replied saying they didn't feel that what I had was by this artist.

I am a graphic designer and work with art on a regular basis, but I am not specifically trained as an appraiser. From the limited research I've done online via Google image search I've seen enough of Arturo Tosi's paintings to give me the impression that what I have (and what you have) look to be stylistically compatible with Arturo's work. However, the main thing I've noticed in the 20+ images I've had access to is that there wasn't anything involving a cityscape (mine is a painting of a city at night on a river). What I've seen of Arturo's work is landscapes and a few still life paintings.

The signature on my painting looks very similar to the one on yours. Arturo's signatures vary from including the initial "A" before the word Tosi, with a few without the "A". It seems like the signature is similar enough to be a serious contender for being a Tosi.

The appraiser from Baltimore shared that Arturo Tosi's paintings have been selling in the range of $3,000 - $4,000 to over $40,000. So I'm thinking it would be nice to discover it was by him.

I'd be interested in finding out if anyone else knows anything about this artist. Perhaps more people have a similar story?

But for the grace of God go I,cyspark

Hi Icyspark,

Thank you for the valuable information you have provided. It would be nice to stay in touch with you just so we could keep each other updated on any information that may be obtained. I guess that for now all I could do is keep researching. You can email me personally at dayuritejeda@aol.com. Also, if you don't mind I would like to see pictures of your painting just so that I can keep the comparison for personal reference. Thank you, Dayi20.

Hi Dayi20,

I started another thread along the same line of thought as this one, and I have a link to a couple images available there (click here). But I'll post the links here as well. Hopefully somebody will be able to help us.

Default Tosi

I found a painting at goodwill. It is an oil painting on canvas of a beach scene. It is approx 48" wide x 23" high. The signature says Tosi. Was wondering if anyone had any information on the artist. Here is a link to my photobucket account with an album of the painting. thank you for any help!

Default Santa Lucia Ltd. Bondetti and Ponza

I have 2 small paintings, approx 6" x 6" both with the
same theme. Looks like some type of impressionism. One has
people in front of two castle type villas. The other has a carriage
and some people going down a thurofaire. The name looks like
F then oo or dot dot , then T o or dot , then a lower case letter,
maybe p ? , then a small L with 3 letters after it. Maybe a r e
or something close to that. Anyone ever hear of F--T--l---
Please email me at Trek0299@yahoo.com Thanks
