I have an oil on canvas painting that my mother brought back from Munich, Germany in 1949. The painting measures 24" x 20". I believe the wooden frame is the original. The signature clearly says C. A. Bode. Photo attached.
Does anyone know anything about this artist? Thanks for your help! |

This is interesting. Through my parents and from my grandmother's estate comes a landscape painting also signed C. A. Bode. My grandmother was also in Germany in 1949.
My painting is of towering mountains with a lake in foreground, vaguely reminiscent of Bierstadt. I know nothing of the artist, but am intrigued by the date/location coincidence. I have more research to do of my grandmother's travels so may find out more. I am interested in any information you may have of the artist. Looking forward to your reply... |

the only C. A. Bode I've found is "C.A. Bode, the great German linguist (d.1796)"(1) with a more fuller name of "BODE, Chr. Aug" 1723-1796(2), I think back in those days, correct me if im sounding ignorant, people with good occupations use to do more than their title suggest and he could have painted them but the painting must be very old then, but the probability of this being correct is low...just thought I'll give you what I found
