Hi,
I live in Adelaide, South Australia. I'm trying to find a painting which may be an original or a copy of an original - I'm not too sure. About 5 years ago an artist from Israel came to my house selling several paintings. He said he was part of a group of overseas students trying to sell some of their work for extra money. My biggest regret was not buying one particular painting. The scene was set between 1870 to 1910. It was of figures of men and woman walking along a street which was wet from rain. Some have umbrellas and each has a reflection on the ground. It was black and white with some grays. I can't exactly recall but the surrounding buildings looked like London or Paris. I would be very keen to hear any clues. |

I don't suppose you mean this painting? It's fairly monochromatic. Jean Beraud was also famous for doing numerous paintings of this type.
Anyway, whatever it was, I'm sure the seller didn't paint the original or even the copy. It was probably bought wholesale from China, if it was even hand-painted at all. This is a worldwide semi-scam. I've had the same people claiming to be from Israel come to my door here in Canada. |
