Default J Miller - Artist

I wonder if anyone can please identify the artist and the subject name in the attached painting. It's an original oil on canvas which I bought recently from a charity shop.

Default jhon Miller

John Miller (1931-2002) was an English artist born in London who became famous for his idyllic representation of beach scenes in his home county of Cornwall. Most of his paintings were of the West Penwith peninsula and Tresco in the Isles of Scilly.

Default Not this John Miller (1931-2002)

Sorry, millbrae,
but your painting surely is not by this John Miller (1931-2002), English artist born in London.
He paints in a different way:

It is by this "J. Miller", who in all probability does not exist - it is a fantasy name:

Default wholesaler

hi everyone! Bought my second "j. miller" painting today at an art shop for $20. I asked where they get their art and they said they buy it wholesale. SO, pretty sure it's counterfeit made in china or somewhere. love it anyway. my signature is a little different on both of them. Im trying to research wholesale art...its a booming business for moneymakers. they use a paint by number system. oh well.

Millbrae hi, I bought in 1979 or 80 from a painter himself erin your image the resemblance is only very much bigger.
The painter from where I bought it was then about 45 years old and was called John Miller from Cornwall. I have this hanging in my house in Thailand in the Gulf of Siam in the living room. It is a wonderful picture and for me very valuable. Whatever it for others who may be. I came by chance on this Deite and had to write a Comm.
If you send me aMail on this adress : dr.unblutig@hotmail.com
I will send you some Pictures from my .

Default J. Miller

I just picked up a painting by J. Miller, and it had a tag on the back from Deer Park, NY.

Wink Another painting

I too have one of these beachside paintings.
Mine is the usual lady with young girl, and another two further away.
Gulls, foliage, yachts, umbrella - things that seem to appear in most of these.
Signed J Miller, of course.
The oil artwork is quite good, in colour selection, detail and shape of the figures. Obviously someone who can paint well.
Age - well this is not new and has been in the attic for many years.
I would rule out anything Chinese or fake. The painting is huge (1050x775mm), and on 1/8" or 3/16" wood pressboard - one with a stipple sort of finish.
So, overall not a bad painting - work on the sky is very good - a few shafts of sunlight would really make it - but a bit too much of a "girlie" painting for me, but might suit others.

Nick, you seem to know something about these - can you update your email pls? Thks.
