I took a photo of a painting in one of the museums I recently visited in Paris, and now I can't remember the title of the painting or the artist. I believe it was taken at the Musee Orsay. I'd attach the photo but it exceeds the allowed capacity, so I'll try to describe it. In the foreground are four nudes: one lies on the ground on some blankets, one is sitting up on a kind of chaise longue with her back to a large red pillar, one is standing with her head thrown back sensually with a green sheet draped from her shoulders, and the fourth is behind the rest, lying on her stomach propped on her elbows looking in our direction. They seem to be in some type of Roman square or open-air harem. There are three figures or so milling around in the background. Can anyone identify this painting/artist? Thank you! --Scott

Sounds like Grecian Interior (le Gynecée), by Jean-Léon Gérôme.

Thanks, John! That was spot on. At first I was even more mystified when I viewed your link to Gerome's "Greek Interior", because while the painting you directed me to was very like the one I saw, some of the details were slightly different. Through a little more research I was able to discover that the one I saw at the Orsay was actually the sketch for the finished version to which you directed me. Mystery solved. Thanks so much for your help. --Scott
