Default Painting from the louvre

My girlfriend just returned from a trip to Paris and took a photo of a painting at the Louvre. She didnt remember the artist or name of the piece I was wondering if anyone could help with that.

This one has been driving me crazy. It looks so familiar. I spent quite some time searching the online Louvre, even checking past exhibitions, however, no joy. Is it a saber this boy is holding? Is he sitting on a flag?
Here is the site, it's awesome. http://www.louvre.fr/llv/commun/home.jsp?bmLocale=en

This painting obviously 19th century can't be in the Louvre, but in Orsay.

I don't have any recollection of this painting. It looks like an Orientalist painting, in fact it reminds me somehow of Delacroix's Orphan Girl in a Cemetery, but I don't think I've ever seen it before.

WOW saintmark!! Thank you! This one really got to me. An absolutely outstanding work of art. Is it a saber he is holding? Sword? Looks like he is sitting on a blue flag with a sort of dark coloured X. Young pirate or rebellious slave. Free at last.

Hello John
That sometimes happens and I know it is a bit irritating!
This painting was recently acquired and not well known for the moment. Then Puvis is more recognizable in his usual symbolist style
