I bought this print (I think it is, the antique dealer told me it might be drypoint).
The name of the piece is "Clare Bridge, Cambridge" - its a drawing of of a famous bridge in Cambridge ( http://oldukphotos.com/graphics/Engl...d%20Bridge.jpg) And it is signed " C. MC. Sherrift " It is matted and framed in what looks like the original frame - on the back of the frame is a sticker/stamp "Fine Art Trade Guild - W. Heffer & Sons, LTD - The Heffer Gallery - 18 & 19 Sidney Street - Cambridge" I have not been able to find a working establishment for The Heffer Gallery or W. Heffer & Sons. I did find a website for the Fine Art Trad Guild, but had no luck finding any information. I can send anyone a picture of this piece - Im not interested in finding out what its worth, I would just love to know the history on it. Thanks! |

This website has two etchings by Christina M.C. Sherriff (about 1/3 of the way down the page). The name is such a perfect match that it must be the same person.
http://www.cambridgeprints.com/catalogues/cambridge.htm However the image you uploaded appears to be a photograph, not a drypoint etching. Also, I don't see any signature, so perhaps you simply uploaded the wrong picture? |
