Need to find out the artist
Dear art-experts,
I have an academic work of 19th. It's size is 170x130 cm. Below on the stone there is a scratch looking line a monogram AV. How do you think can it be a monogram or just a scratch? Maybe anybody can recognize this painting?
This painting had been painted from the sculpture of Antonio Canova "The penitent Magdalena". Maybe Canova made his sculpture from this painting. There is an opinion that this painting was made by the famous russian painter Aleksey Egorov because he lived in Italy 4 years and was Canova's friend. Egorov was called "Russian Raphael".
Maybe somebody can look this painting in german or french or russian catalogues? I will be thankful for every kind og information on the subject!
