I have a painting of a woman sitting on a chair in a field, playing a guitar. She had blonde hair which covers her face. The man I bought it from speculates that it may be of Carole King. The only part of the signature I can make out on the front lefthand bottom corner says "Frank" with the first letter of his last name "A." There is a frame on it which has been spray painted blue but which would probably have been white. I was wondering if anybody has any information to help me with this mystery?

The Getty ULAN database shows 3 contemporary painters that match:
- Frank Archer (British, 1912-1995) - Frank Ashley (American, born 1920) - Frank Auerbach (British, born 1931, same school as Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud) But chances are it is none of these. Best bet would be to post a picture of the painting and another close-up of the signature. |
