While working at the Census Bureau in Suitland, MD around 1990, I walked by a mural/display of various art and historical info daily. I'd guess it was all American artists/authors due to it being Census related.
Anyway, in the early 1900 range was a painting of a young woman or girl sitting in a chair. I think she was blonde, long/wavy, and may have had a diary or book in her lap. Her smile/gaze was similar to the Mona Lisa. She wore a long blue or white dress, tiered. The dress was 1920-1930 in style. Unfortunately, Google yields hundreds of paintings of "woman in chair"... Any suggestions? Thanks! |

I did a search as well. No joy. Any chance you can contact the Census Bureau in MD? They must have records...

WOW! You pulled this from memory from twenty years ago. Outstanding! A wonderful sketch. Looks familiar, she reminds me of 'The Thinker' by Renoir.
![]() I have done a search of American painters, historical figures and authors, however, no joy. Hopefully someone will recognize this. If not I suggest that you paint your sketch. I'm quite sure that it will be a work of art. Regards, Eirene Last edited by Eirene : January 8th, 2010 at 03:33 AM. |

I can't help thinking it must be Mary Casatt, but I can't find one that quite fits.
