Default Help with identification.

Hello all! I am new to the forum and love it.

I bought the painting this past summer at an auction where the person had many paintings. I don't know anything about paintings so I'm looking for some help.

The painting looks to be very old, if you have an idea of what it is or an idea of someone who could help me I would be very greatful. Don't mind the condition, I bought it this way and have been meaning to get it fixed.

Thanks in advance, Cole

You would think that there would be a signature on this somewhere. Love the water and the sky. Looks British. I have lightened it up a wee bit.

Try looking up Bonaventura Peeters or Pieter Mulier. I doubt it's by either of them, but it could be by a copier or follower. There's a whole subcategory of Dutch marine painting in which ships are depicted in a foreign harbour in the shadow of a castle or fortress.
