Default painting in the louvre

I was in the Louvre during the summer of 2006 and have been trying to find the name of a painting sporadically since then. The painting was large in size. The canvas, in essence was painted all black. Running up the painting from bottom to top with a slight tilt to the right was a road that appears to be in the french revolution time. The buidling on the left is cut away so you can see into a tavern. Because the canvas is all black you only see details where there are sources of light in the painting. Inside the tavern is a light over a table where it appears 4 or 5 people are talking conspiratorily. Farther back in the tavern is another light showing detail back there. Back out on the street, towards the top of the painting is a street light that shows detail underneath it. On the right side of the road, on the right of the painting, is what appears to be a long apartment building that has some rooms with lights on in them, exposing detail there.
This painting hung in one of the long halls and was oversized, maybe 6 feet long by 4 or 5 feet tall.
