Default Identify this Painting?

Hi all,

I'd really like to know the artist and name of this painting:

I think it's fairly well known, but I have nothing to go on here and can't find a reference.

Thanks,
Dan

It's a great painting by Caspar David Friedrich. I've seen several versions of the title, either because Friedrich didn't give it a specific name or because the translation from the German varies. It's basically "The Wanderer above the Mists".

The Web Gallery of Art has a particularly good scan of it:

Wonderful, thanks! For some reason I thought it was in one of the major London art galleries, and spent quite a bit of time digging through their collections.

Default I'm trying to identify a painting for my uncle...

I can't find any title on this painting, but it appears to be signed "W. Darby." I don't have any other information about it.

If you can help me with this, please e-mail me at steveirwinindisguise@gmail.com

Default Oil Painting

Hi I was wondering if any of you might be able to identify this painting either. I believe the subject matter is St. Augustine of Hippo

Thank you!

Re St. Augustine: I stuck it into Google's "reverse" image search and a bunch of versions of this same image came out, including this one:

It definitely seems to be St. Augustine, but I don't know if any of the pages identify the painter or source. I didn't check them in depth, and few of them are in English. I'm not sure if this will work, but you can try this link for the Google search:

I've been trying to find a portrait I saw once at the London National Gallery. It was a lady in a dark dress, either purple or black, skating on a lake. She had dark hair and I think the painting was from the 1820s or 30s, and probably from England. I can't find the original piece, but it looked like this one, with a female subject:

The name was Lady (something), I believe. Thanks! I know this isn't a lot to go on.

It wasn't this one was it? You could mistake him for a woman if you didn't look closely.

No, it was a full-length portrait and she was facing the viewer...Definitely a woman, though.

Default Could this be a Velasquez?

Hello,

My family and I have been trying to identify the artist of this painting. We suspect it may be Spanish, possibly Velasquez or one of his followers. Any clues or info would be very much appreciated!
