help with kowalski painting

I need help with a kowalski-wierusz painting. My father has what I think is the original "lone wolf" painting hanging in his living room. It definitly matches all the prints that I have found on-line but I can not find any referance to the original anywhere. Any ideas or help on how to identify if it is the original.

How long has your father had the painting?

This site says the painting went through "20 separate editions." Which could mean that either Kowalski painted 20 of the same scene; or reprints of the painting were made 20 times. It is unclear what is meant by this.

If you suspect that it is an original (one of twenty made??), you may wish to have an expert (eg an appraiser or even conservator) look at it in person.

my father got it from a good friend 15 years ago. his friend had it for approx. 40 years

One way an appraiser or other art professional will be able to tell you anything of significance, is by tracing an object's provenance, or history of ownership. They might ask you if you know where your father's friend lived, where he might have purchased or otherwise obtained the painting.

Aside from all of that, is the question of authenticity. You are unlikely to determine such in an on-line forum; canvas transfers of posters, and even lithographs, can look very much like paintings in digital format. Look here or here for an appraiser in your area who may consult with you.

I have an old piece of artwork titled "The Lone Wolf #2224 from painting by Kowalski". It measures 9 inches by just under 7 inches. It is in a very old frame.
Do you know anything about this piece? Do you know any value on such a piece?

Back in the early 70's my father started collecting this particular painting. He ended up with several versions of the same. Some the wolf was facing right and others he was facing left. Most of them the wolf was small and overlooking the houses. There was also a version that was almost like a close up where the wolf was larger. I tried to find out more about the paintings and artist,Kowalski. It was some time ago but I remember reading that the original hung in the Louvre and was destroyed by a fire many years ago. It has also been a favorite of mine. Though my father passed away amost 20 years ago, I still have a Lone Wolf hanging in my home.

I have a Lone Wolf painting which is very old and in a very old frame. The painting on on board and I was told that it once hung in a museum. I think it maybe one of the original 20 painted by kowalski. How would i know ?
