Artist I.D. help
This is a roughly 12 x 18 oil handed down to a friend of mine who thinks his late uncle might have obtained it in Europe. The style of the half-legible signature looks Victorian. Other than that I haven't the foggiest. Any help would be most appreciated.

You are a rock star. Many thanks. Thanks to your tip, I can now see that he was quite prolific as an artist. Alas, I can find no history on him as a person. (Born in 1875 is about about all that's documented) Any idea what his background might be?
