Need help with author name...

Is that the best picture you have? There's a signature at the lower right, but it's unreadable. Possibly S M----.

Sorry, yes, I'm afraid it's the best picture I have.

Alternatively, I'm also looking for another winter landscape:

A bright red barn over a snowy field, with a deep blue sky in the background. And there's some people on the picture and a "cart" arriving. ??? I thinkn it's by an american author, and I know it's from around 1938.
