My Dad was given by his elderly lady friend who has since past away a 36 x 28 painting. My dad has been a professional artist and collector for years but does not use internet so I am trying to help.

The elderly woman said to my Dad that the artist only signed his work after he sold but had past away before selling so the artist's wife gave it to the elderly woman decades ago but since the elderly woman my Dad knows has past.

Here are two photos of the painting.

The only note says Painted by Wm Smandl in who's who is the art world.

Any help appreciated, my Dad believes artist is from east cost (Maine, CT or NJ) but not sure.

It is driving me crazy to find the answer.
