Default Art conservation jobs/ideas

Sorry, this is a little unrelated to the current topics that are floating about. But, I'm an undergraduate chemistry major with a deep love of art. I was wondering if there were any ideas out there for potential jobs where i might be able to connect the two? I was specifically wondering about the feasibility of going into the field of art conservation (with a BS in Chemistry!). Any interesting internship? Suggestions? Ideas?

Here is your best resource, the AIC: http://aic.stanford.edu/. Joining a standing professional committee as soon as you can is probably a good idea.

Under the "Education" tab, click "Becoming a Conservator." There is information regarding undergraduate preparation as well as links to various post-grad programs.

Good luck!

Default Conservation

University of Lincoln offers a Graduate Diploma Course and a Masters Degree in Conservation. Sue Thomas is the head of year. I believe she would be a good source of information.

In recent years, fine art and science has been merged and is becoming quite popular in the contemporary art scene. Just so your are aware of this connection you might want to check out oran catts & ionat zurr & guy ben-ary, george gessert and eduardo Kac. These artists might interest you coming from a science background.

Default etchings

I have dozens of etchings done by my wife over 20 years ago. Sadly I am responsible for putting the etchings back then in "acid" mats and backings. My question is what kind of bath can I soak the prints in to remove the acid burn? Is there a book you can recommend to help me? She's going to divorce me if I don't restore her prints. Thanks for you help. John Corsetti

I have seen sprays that are used to deacidify paper, but as for reversing the accumulated damage -- I don't know if that can be done.
