Default help who painted this painting

I purchased this oil painting around 18yrs ago any ideas who the artist is or what the date would be thanks

Is that RIP painted on the lower right? If so perhaps it is a memorial painting. Just a wild guess...maybe Frida Kahlo...she died in 1954.

Not that it was painted by her but that someone painted it to honour her.

Maybe, but doesn't that "RIP" look a little too jaunty or jolly to signify "Rest in Peace"?

No doubt you are correct John.When I look at it in daylight I see what you mean. It was after four in the morning when I looked at this. It doesn't really look like Freda.

This painting was done by someone who does not understand painting deeply but has skill. Its worthless in terms of something larger than the artists had limited skills and no understanding of any higher artistic application or social comprehension.

Advice, Keep it if you love it
