Default Help with Artist Identification

Hello,
I recently found a painting in a family members storage compartment that they gave to me and I am having trouble learning more information about the artist and determining the value of the piece.

It measures 15in. x 13 1/2in. in the frame. The actual canvas measures 12in x 10in and it is signed "J. Harvey".

Any information that could be provided would help greatly. Thank you.

A very similar painting is here:

and here:
http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/18499..._J_HARVEY.html

and another one here, an old listing on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Art-Print---Mixed-Media---Sea-Battle-War-Ship---Harvey-_W0QQitemZ370344388243QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ2010030 7?IMSfp=TL1003071610003r2164

I'm definitely seeing a pattern here. Well, Rothko devoted his whole life to blurry rectangles. Why shouldn't J. Harvey devote his life to painting ships blowing each other up? :-)

Yes, I have found those links on the internet as well. I unfortunately cannot find any substantial information about J. Harvey. That is really the focus of my question actually. Does anyone know anything about this J. Harvey?

The Getty ULAN database has incomplete information about 3 possibles. I haven't researched them online. I wouldn't have guessed the paintings dated from as far back as 1827, but maybe one of them will be the person you're looking for.

Harvey, J. (British artist, active 1827)
Harvey, J. D. M. (British artist, active from 1920)
Harvey, John Rabone (British painter, active from 1887, died 1933)

Thank you. That does help to narrow it down a bit. I have two other paintings as well that I cannot identify from the same family member. Any thoughts from anyone? I'll attach the second to another message.

Default John Dean Munroe Harvey illastrative artist

I have a pencil drawing of what I believe is the first impression of Nottinghams
Council House which is quite an impressive building. I noted that it is said on this site that this artist JDM Harvey was active from 1920 but this drawing is dated 1918 and signed JDM Harvey at bottom Right! The positon of this signing seems identical to a poster he drew for the london underground which can be found on the internet. I believe the huge Council House building was built in 1927 or therabouts but will be looking into the exact date. This drawing I have is an original sketch on A5 paper and was owned by the occupier of a bungalow built by the Nottingham City Council in about 1927.
