The first letter of the first name almost looks like an O with a circonflex over it (Ô), but that's pretty rare. An even larger image would be better.

NOW it looks like a "D". Looking at it without prejudging it, it looks like "Dunisot" or "Danisof" or something, but if it's a recognizable name then I will guess "Denis" or "Davis". That would make the rest of the word a middle initial, perhaps, or maybe just a flourish.

Using the same reasoning (recognizable name), I would guess the second word is "Parks", or maybe "Parke" or "Parkes".

to the original poster
I assume that you have inspected the back of the painting? The stretcher? Is there some stamp or any marks that could help?
do you have more information on provenance and dating?

Its an oil on board -- the only thing on the back is a perfect brown hand print. It is such a beautiful painting. No idea how old it is -- looks fairly old. Its actually my moms -- I was just trying to do a bit of research for her. We have always been fascinated by it and until only recently when we put a blue light to it we could see a signature.
