Default Gallery or Auction stamp?

Could someone help be with these two stamp printed on the back of a antique canvas(around 1895-1900)

Also, have you even seen original painting that is fixed to the stretcher with nails? was that a common practice for late 1800? or we could think is more a bad reporduction?

thanks

There is no connection with a restauration symbol. The stamp on the stretcher is a common label for some stretchers used in France about 1880/1900. The number 15 is for the size. These sizes were normalized about 1860. Before, the numerous and hazardous sizes of stretchers made in home made harder the work of frames makers and exhibitions organisations. Your painting is supposed to be 65cm high and 50cm wide. The P is for "paysage" since the sizes are divided as P 'landscape)-F 'figure)-M (marine). You will find a board here :

Now, for the nails, the artists often use that they can afford and this is not at all the mark of a copy.

Default Another stamp identification

My mom has a painting -- a landscape oil looks old -- signed P. LaCroix. It has a stamp on the back circular and official saying Duoane and then Harlem. Not sure if you have seen many in your art world days and could let me know without a picture. otherwise I will post a picture later today. I looked up Duoane and it is a french exsice tax....

The answer is that I discovered bots using the mail facility to try to send spam. One of these days I'll see if I can upgrade to a version of the forum software that has captcha-type authentication. That will reduce the attempts at spamming, but I'm sure it won't halt it altogether.
