In addition to my post...I recently seen an m. elgee painting on ebay for sale for $3000 and all it stated was that she was an aquaitance of A.Y. Jackson...I could find something on her via artistes au canada in french but when I try to open it it wont work. I think her full name was margaurite murray-elgee. I think she may have gotten the murray added to her name when she married thinking I have her pictures from before she married.

Hi
You were enquiring about, Caceil Elgee. one of his watercolours, titled, WEST OF IRELAND SCENE EWITH YOUNG BOY, is included in an auction to be held by auctioneers Mealys of Castlecomer, county Kilkenny Ireland, on may 4th next. its guided Euro 120-220. Mealys probably have details of Cacil Elgee. Hope this helps Regards Aidan Sullivan |

Cecil Elgee, family nickname 'Moppie'. She was my mother's cousin. Spent early years in India, later lived in Devon. I beleive she was related to the Hamiltons. She was a well known artist in that area. She died around 1985 or so.

I would like to know more about Cecil Elgee's family in connection with a project at Fairlynch Museum, Budleigh Salterton, where she lived and where I am press officer. Can you tell me what relation she was to Lt Col J.W.L. Elgee? Would you know if her father fought in WW1? The project concerns a teddy bear called Cecil which Miss Elgee left to the Museum. Any information gratefully received. Best wishes Michael Downes Email: mr.downes@gmail.com |
