What's the best way to research online a piece of art. I know there's google books, but I don't find much with catalogs or images that have full previews. I've tried the world cat and my interlibrary loan which is my best resource, but I'm wondering if there is anything else online where I can get information right away. I am familiar with findartinfo, artprice, artconversation(obviously), the artcyclepedia and the different auction houses. Just wondering what else might be out there.
Thank you. |

What specifically are you trying to do? One trick I sometimes use to find images is to try commercial image libraries such as Art Resource or Bridgeman Art Library. Also, Sothebys has a sold lot archive (with images) that goes back about a decade, but you have to look around a bit to find it.
Also, Amazon.com has the full searchable text, with images, of many thousands of contemporary books online. Finally, you might want to try poking around ArtPortal.org. I built this a while back based on the resources I find useful in my own work, but I never really figured out how to drive traffic to it or make money from it, so it never got properly launched. |
