I have been trying to identify the title and artist of this particular painting for close to four years. My old Humanities professor had this poster print (more of a flyer) hanging up in her classroom from when she saw this exhibition in Europe ("Sturm und Drang")
Unfortunately, when I asked my Humanities professor if she could identify this painting, she couldn't recall the name or artist, however, she did tell me this particular piece is of the romantic style, and part of a larger piece. I only have a poor quality picture I snapped with my camera phone. The picture is of an angry man with a beard, pointing at a swooning woman. This is the picture: http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/1...rmunddrang.png If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it! |

Your professor was right. It is part of "Lear banishing Cordelia" by Johann Heinrich Fussli, in the Art Gallery of Ontario
http://www.collectionx.museum/en/media/1099.html If the choice of a work by Fussli is a good idea for a poster about Sturm und Drang, the choice of a shakespearian subject, if not really out of place was not the wisest. They could have chosen Fussli's illustrations for Oberon. Last edited by saintmarc : March 21st, 2010 at 05:51 AM. |
