Back in the 1970s, I painted a seascape in the style of Frederick Judd Waugh. I lived in Nottingham at the time and sold the painting to a Mr John Poppel. I now live in Seattle USA and would love to trace the painting and purchase it for my wife. I would appreciate anyone giving any clue to where the painting is. It is titled "The Headland", and my name is on the back (Brian Jackson) along with the date it was painted.

Hi Brianj, This is a bit off your topic but I live in Nottingham UK now and I notice you live in Seattle. If you could have a look at my post in the "Art Discussion General" section for post dated March 14 2010 you will see that we have been discussing two paintings by Hassan el Yashmid of Arab figures on camels. The Fine Impressions Gallery in Seattle (details and address on the website listed in my post) have these two paintings on offer under index 07101 and 07903 and they say that they are original watercolours or gouaches mounted on acid board and framed. I would like to know whether they are indeed originals or prints. You can see the reasons for doubt in my post. I wonder if the location is convenient for you to visit one day and have a look at the paintings and let us know what you think? Hope to hear from you. Roger. |

Regarding this painting I am posting a copy of an oil which was sold at my local auction house on 25.4.09 in Nottingham. It is a seascape and has a Headland as main feature. It would be an amazing coincidence if this was your work. |

Thank you so much for your reply Roger. Unfortunately the painting you show is not the one I painted. I think I wrote on the back that it was in the style of "Frederick Waugh". I am sure I signed my name on the front too. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
.....Brian. |

I have just come across your website when searching for above artist.
I have 2: 1 is called prayer by sunset and the other gossip. They are in the original frames and must be quite old. |

Hi, Are these paintings original watercolours or prints? Would it be possible to post copies as I would be very interested to see them.
I have recently been in touch with the prop of a local Berber/Arab retail outlet and he says that Hassan el Yashmid was a Moroccan artist and he is trying to get a book for me which has his biography in it. I'm surprised that there are no real references to him on Google or other sites - I've tried Arab search engines also with no results. Where did you get your pictures? Thanks and hope to hear from you. |
