Dear community:
I purchased a number of paintings from the estate of a deceased art collector a while back. I have been able to identify all of the artists except for one. I tried a unique approach of putting the painting on eBay for $20 million in the hopes of attracting the attention of an art expert who could help me identify the creator of the painting. The painting has a signature on both the front and the back of the painting. One eBay member said he had a signed and numbered lithograph from the same artist, but he too was unable to decipher the signature. I have received numerous offers for the painting, some of which have actually been quite high. I cannot, in good conscience, accept any offer until I have identified the artist. I know that some pieces of original art are worthless and some are worth a literal fortune. An acquaintance of mine sold an item on eBay for $600. It was later resold at auction for $400,000. When I heard his story, I vowed never to do the same thing. When I asked the people who put in substantial bids if they could help me identify the artist, they have all refused to respond. I understand that people want to profit from my ignorance, but I am hoping that somebody could actually help me and not simply try to buy art at a deflated price simply to resell it later for a fortune. Below the URL for the eBay auction. I would appreciate any insight that the members here may have. If the link below doesn't work, you can simply put in the search terms "20 million dollar mystery painting" and arrive at the listing. Thank you! http://cgi.ebay.com/20-Million-Dolla...item1c0de1d546 |

LOL, maybe at first glance there's something about Johnny Cash in the expression on his face.
My best wild guess would be "affira" or possibly "affiro". Kind of a Black Power-ish name that sounds a lot like "afro". |

I read Hird in the painted signature.
I just watched Bob & Carol..Ted & Alice and thought of this painting. Very odd. Could be V.Hiro, however, that would be an oriental name I believe. Edit: How much is the finders fee? 20%? Last edited by Eirene : March 25th, 2010 at 11:04 PM. |
