My wife inherited the oil on wood painting for which I have attached three photos. She thinks her grandfather purchased the painting sometime before 1950 somewhere on the Seattle waterfront. She remembers the picture being in her grandparents Beacon Hill home in Seattle in the mid-1950s.
The only identification is MBE (I think the last letter is E) in the lower right corner. The picture is about 66" tall and 40" wide. It appears to be painted directly on 3/4" pine. You can see the entire painting at: http://svmirador.net/BeforeCraigsLis...ingEntire1.jpg The signature at:http://svmirador.net/BeforeCraigsLis...gSignature.jpg Details of one quadrant of the picture: http://svmirador.net/BeforeCraigsLis...tQuandrant.jpg My wife's mother does not know anything about the painting and Grandma has died 15 years ago. Any information would be appreciated. |
