I am looking for a painting that I saw on the cover of a day calendar that struck me, the vibrancy, color and movement.
I can't remember the artist nor the name of the painting although I think it had something to do with Nike. The subject of the painting was the three girls, the tallest daughter is in the middle and almost looks like she could be the mother. They are walking toward the viewer of the painting, each in a vibrant ruby red, emerald green or golden yellow fabric that shows each fold and detail. The oldest daughter in the middle looks as if she has wings but the wings are the clouds behind her. The only biography information I remember about the artist is that his wife died. Any suggestions for what this painting could be would be much appreciated! |

I don't think I know the picture, but this sounds like Abbott Handerson Thayer, even down to the tragic loss of his wife. He often painted girls as angels with wings.

John, thank you! It was indeed Thayer's painting the Virgin (1893).
Thank you! |
