Question Who is this ARNDT?

Does anyone have any information about an artist who signed his oil paintings simply ARNDT. This is not Thomas Arndt, Ursula Arndt, or W. Leo Arndt. The Arndt in question painted alpine mountain scenes. One painting, in particular, is a snow scene depicting Germany's tallest mountain, the Zugspitz, at sunset. This Arndt is cited in the New York Public Library Artists Files on Microfiche. On microfiche is an ad for a similar Arndt painting in the May 1951 issue of PICTURE AND GIFT JOURNAL placed by an art gallery in La Porte, Indiana. The gallery is still in business but I have received no reply to my inquiry. I would much appreciate obtaining any clues as to the indentity of this Arndt. Thank you.

Default Maybe Paul Wesley Arndt?

Greetings,

I found this artist that fits your time period.
Paul Wesley Arndt (1881 - 1978)

Paul Arndt is noted for landscape painting.

Here are some additional Arndt artists that could fit your time period.

Franz-Gustav Arndt (German, 1842-1905)
Gertrud Arndt (German, 1903)
Leo Arndt (German, 1857-1945)

Regards,

Judy Decker

I have a painting by Paul Wesley Arndt oil on canvas of a Mountain Landscape signed "Arndt 52" in the lower left corner. He is an artist trained in Europe & at the Art Institute of Chicago who also painted in the Woodstock Group of Hudson River Valley American Artists. His paintings go for $800.00 to $1,200.00 or so. See examples on-line at the Blue Hill Bay Gallery in Maine and the JD Pierce Gallery of Fine Art. Also, the Rago Arts and Auction Center. Use Control+F and Arndt to find his work.

I too have a oil painting of a mountain landscape with "Arndt '50 in the left hand corner. Was bought by my grandfather in the early 50s in Chicago. I assume it's the same artist you describe.

Default 4 Arndts

I also have Arndt paintings. They were purchased by my father in 1954 in Bakersfield, Ca. They measure 9 1/2" by 7 1/4" and are mountain scenes in what looks like Bavaria or Switzerland. Two of the paintings feature a chalet. They are signed in the lower left corner "Arndt" and dated "50."

Default Arndt Painting

I have recently inherited an ARNDT oil on canvas painting. The painting is quite large and is framed in an elaborate gold frame. On the back of the canvas is a bit of information regarding the painter: The painter is Francis Arndt from Austria. The painting I have was purchased in the early 1950's. Is is a chateau on a beautiful mountainside. The artist signed his last name in capital letters in the lower left corner. I am having difficulty finding information about him.

Default Please!

My parents were close with Paul Arndt when he was in his '70's and they were newly married... they speak of him with such love and sweetness in their voices. I would love love love to purchase some of his artwork for them- it would mean the world to them!

Would anyone be willing to help me with this search??? I appreciate any ideas as well as the time and consideration spent! My e-mail address is courtneywcrocker@yahoo.com.

Thanks again, truly!
Courtney

Default Arndt

I have one of these paintings also. Grandfather purchased it in the 40's

The link below is the only info I have been able to find.

I do not believe is is Paul Arndt. The works do not have simular styles.

The painting at the european link is by Paul Wesley Arndt. The signature is the same as the Alpine scene that I have signed Arndt 51. In fact, I believe that the site has it wrong and looks like Arndt 47---not 41.
