Hi! I bought two paintings at garage sales in the last few years, but I haven't been able to identify either artist, and I really like them both. I am wondering if anyone recognizes their work, or can decipher the signatures?
The first painting is a fall scene, and I think the signature says H. Gaiky, but I haven't been able to find anything on that person, so I might be reading it wrong. Here is the painting and a close-up of the signature. I've messed with the contrast to try to make it more legible, if you're wondering about the color differences. http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/7...arpainting.jpg http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/620...signature2.jpg The second is a village scene, and it looks like it's painted on black velvet. That sounds really cheesy, but actually looks very nice here. The woman I bought it from said it had been her grandmother's and that it was in her house while she was growing up, so I am assuming it is at least from the 70s or earlier. Here is the painting and signature. The signature is really hard to read - frankly, I'm not even sure if it's English at this point. I would be shocked if anyone could read it, so I'm just hoping someone will recognize the signature and be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks so much for your help! http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/6...agepicture.jpg http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/9...ngsignatur.jpg |

The first signature reads H Gailey; not, alas a real person, but an invented signature added to landscapes in a certain style by any number of painters at a Hong Kong painting factory.
http://www.fineartregistry.com/artic...collecting.php (Ignore the later parts of the article, which are trying to sell a service, but the information seems solid enough.) http://pottery.yobunny.com/index.php?topic=10056.0 The company also supplies works signed BARTON, FRANK LEAN, I. Cafieri and KEITH, K. Wallis. Last edited by Hercules Brabazon : May 18th, 2010 at 02:53 AM. |

Alas, I thought it might be a Gailey, but since it seems like they paint mostly seascapes and this isn't, I was hoping it was just a similar name.
I still need help on the second painting if anyone has any ideas! |
