I just inherited a painting. For years (since ~1960?) we have called her "Mimi". Don't know the painter, except a name on the lower right seems like Mandini. Don't know if name of painting is correct either.
She is a frontal view of a pretty young lady, with large, black oval eyes, creamy skin on her face and neck, and dressed in an outrageously fancy, colorful hat (purples, reds, yellows, greens). She has a high collar on her dress behind her head equally colorful. She has an extremely long neck and subtle smile. For me she always brought light and color into the room, representing the epitome of flamboyancy, youth, intrigue, and happiness. The paint on everything except the neck and face has cracked extensively. I mention that because I think that ,since it didn't crack on the face and neck, perhaps it was done with a type of paint that was supposed to crack to add to the character of the clothing, hence the painting. If so, that might serve as an identifying feature, but I really don't know. |

There is an artist named Richard Mandin (1909-2002), but I don't think he works in the style you are describing.
This sounds like a glamorous painting similar to those of Giovanni Boldini, who has a similar name but you're probably not going to mistake a "B" for an "M". |

Is this a Victorian painting? Where does the year 1960 originate? Is this the year you inherited the painting? Upload a picture, this may help.

Eirene: 1960 is the year I think my parents bought the painting, or about that time. I don't think it is Victorian. The neck is too bare for that, isn't it?
Anyways. I tried to upload the picture, but I can't seem to do it. It doesn't seem to transfer to this thread, and I can't send it to Artconversation apparently because I don't have the correct address, or something. I'm frustrated. I've been trying to get this correct since I first "joined" ~ 25 May. Help???? Peter |

John:
As Eirene suggested, I am trying to upload the picture, but I seem to be unable to do that. Lack of knowledge, perhaps. I hope she will inform me of the proper technique. If so, I presume you too will see it. Thanks, Peter |

I received it by email, and the problem was that the image was way too large to upload. The limit is about 500K.
