Hi, I have 2 pictures with faces that look familiar but I can't quite place them.
#1: Here is what I assume is a Baroque-era painting with some wonderful characters in it. It's entitled The Charity of Saint Elizabeth [of Hungary]. It was offered for sale a few years ago, but I have lost track of it now. I cropped out the central figure because it really appears that there is something badly wrong with it. I would guess that the figure somehow became damaged and someone tried to restore it as best they could. Anyway, I would love to know if anyone recognizes these characters from any other painting, or if they can suggest the original author of the painting. ![]() |

#2: This is a pencil sketch on paper which I own. I have an idea who the artist is, a trained Victorian-era English artist but not a name that would be recognized by the public or even by many authorities in the field.
But the face is so familiar... Reminds me of the work of Waterhouse or someone of that type. I wonder if it could be a familiar model or even a copy of a painting from that era. I know he did prints based on paintings by other artists, so it may well be a study of a well-known painting. (Or a modern copy based on a well-known painting.) ![]() |

Here's one more, from a little-known painter who I believe could have been copying a painting by Eakins or someone similar...
