Seriously, if that's an original painting it's quite good. Is that a signature at the lower left?

There is no signature anywhere on the piece. It is an original oil painting on canvas, and the paint appears to be as old as the subject's period in it. I'm guessing late 1800's early 1900's. I'm an artist, mostly cartoons, comics, and anime inking but not an expert on art history. I want to start collecting and learning more, though.
