my father recently found the curiosity as to who painted this landscape picture he got from his father, my grandfather. He says the painting is old then he is, which would make it 60 yeas or older, and besides that I have little to no information on it.
My parents now live in Ramea Newfoundland Labrador and my fathers parents were originally from a small place called Cul de Sac East. They moved from their to here when my dad was only young. I don't know if this is very useful, he says he doesn't recognize the landscape from anywhere he's been but I wouldn't exactly trust his memory very well. The painting itself is covered with plastic and attached to a piece of wood with no signature to be seen, it is possible there is a signature on the back of the painting but we won't remove the painting in fear of damaging it. That's all I know, I know this is definitely a long shot but any help would definitely be appreciated. http://img180.imageshack.us/i/0001485.jpg/ http://img341.imageshack.us/i/0001484.jpg/ http://img139.imageshack.us/i/0001481.jpg/ |

I can't decide whether the scene is Dutch (that appears to be one of those traditional thatched roofs) or Canadian (those look like birch trees).
Is that scrawl at the lower right a possible signature? |

No I don't think I see a signature, but I'm not sure I see anything might constitute a signature either. The comment on the house makes sense because my father made a very similar comment this afternoon about how the house doesn't look like any house he's ever seen. But again, I'm not completely sure of anything at this point.

Sorry, forgot to log in. That last comment was myself under "Unregistered", I apologise for the inconvenience.

I don't have the feeling that it is Dutch. The lake together with the hills don't look Dutch to me.
It could be European maybe German or Belgian. |

So no more useful hints as to the origins? No one has any sort of inkling or abstract thought? I thought the comments on if the house was possibly dutch or european in design were quite interesting but it's not a lot to go on. Please, any further help is much appreciated.
