Default Identify this painting

At the lower left hand corner is 18 (symbol of crown)70, or 1870 with a crown separating 18 and 70.

Are you sure it's a crown? I have done a search through the artist monograms, however, no luck with this one. There are quite a few monograms placed in between dates. You can have a look here, it's rather late and I may have missed it.-> http://www.artarchiv.net/doku/artistmonograms.htm

Do you think that it could be a scepter in the monogram? I am thinking that perhaps the young boys are Royalty given their attire.

Unbelievable! Saintmarc, you are the master. If you ever patent and sell the method you used to track down a specific wall on the Internet, you'll have a Nobel prize waiting for you in Stockholm.

I second that John. WOW!!! I spent quite a bit of time trying to find that. At one point I thought it was a young grandson of Napoleon and the storyteller was pointing to Saint Helena.

Well I certainly hope that William returns to check on this thread.

The trick seems to be to use a LOT of search words and then page deep.

Saintmarc, thank you so much. Don't know how you did it but I am truly grateful.

Thank you so much.

A painting that still has a certain familiarity in Britain as this cartoon from August 7th indicates....
