Default Paul Arzens Oil

Hi Everyone,
I'm going through some accumulated attic art. Can anyone provide info on Paul Arzens....I've found very little on the internet....it seems I must pay a membership fee to one of the art research sites to get bio & ballpark value on Arzens. I'm hoping someone may know of an alternate source of information, or can possibly recommend which of the art research sites is the best & most comprehensive, before I blindly join one.
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
Best, Nancy

In my experience they all differ slightly in what auction results they have. Findartinfo.com and artinfo.com (click "art prices") are good places to start, because you can get sales prices for free. If I am doing real in-depth research on an artist or artwork (infrequent), I'll hit several of the other sites as well, and pay for a short-term membership if what I see looks promising.

Arzens exhibited at the Georges de Braux Gallery in a group show (which included Dufy) in 1947 and had a solo exhibition there in 1951. so I suppose your picture comes from around that time.

Rather surprisingly, he seems to be the same person as the car and locomotive designer Paul Arzens (1903-1990)

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Arzens

descibed there as "an excellent painter (in the classic tradition)"

There's a painting by him in this 2007 catalogue estimated at 400-600 euros.

Those auto designs are fantastic! The paintings, I am less excited about.

Thank you Hercules for the links, they're very helpful...I also came across the cars / locomotives in my searches, but dismissed the possibility they were the same person, stylistically they are so different from his paintings. But I think you may be right....interesting.
