Default Demon paintings...

Hi,

i am looking for a oil or acrylic painting. it has dark disfigured characters... obscure agonizing demon faces that make up pillars and candle wax. there is an old women holding or either looking at a crystal ball of some sort. the color sceme is made up of dark blues grays blacks and reds. another one Ive scene has a mermaid like creature laying on the ground wounded by a knight. the same horrid demon faces make up body parts as well as the surrounding... there are more painting like this with different themes. they were in a red bound book. this was about 16 years ago when i seen these horrifying paintings. does anyone have a clue.

Would it be any of Gustave Dore's illustrations?

Quote:
These art images include Doré's illustrations to The Divine Comedy, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Perrault's Fairy Tales, Don Quixote, Paradise Lost, Contes Drolatiques, Fables de La Fontaine, Tennyson's Elaine, and others.

The illustrations start with 'The Divine Comedy' Inferno 1.
