Please help

Hi everyone,

I have this old painting done by A.E.Capell (or Cabell) but I don't know the date etc. I would like to know if anyone knows of this artist, where he is from and if his paintings are worth anything. I have tried to attach a copy of the painting but it to large. I could always email it to anyone if need be

The artist might be Alfred Eugene Capelle (1834-1887). He was French. There is one work I found which was sold for $1,175 in 2005. It was 22" x 26" oil. Here is a signature. I hope this helps.

Hi David,

Have done a bit of searching and he is and Englishman who fought in South Africa in the Boerwar and then became the Police Commissioner of Southern Rhodesia. He painted a few paintings, but I don't think he is that famous, still I like it anyway
