Hi,
I posted this several months ago, and didn't get a response, so I'm hoping someone can help me now. I bought this painting at a garage sale. The woman I bought it from said it had been her grandmother's and that it was in her house while she was growing up, so I am assuming it is at least from the 70s or earlier. Here is the painting and signature. The signature is really hard to read - frankly, I'm not even sure if it's English at this point. I would be shocked if anyone could read it, so I'm just hoping someone will recognize the signature and be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks so much for your help! http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/6...agepicture.jpg http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/9...ngsignatur.jpg |

The first name is "ilJA" and the style looks Eastern European possibly Slavic or Russian would be my guess. The church looks Orthodox. Can you please provide a clearer shot of the signature?
