Hello,
I am hoping that someone will be able to help me identify the artist of this particular painting. When I aquired this painting, some twelve years ago, I was advised that the artist was an "old master" and that I should not part with it. Unfortunately, I cannot make out the signature of the artist, and therefore, cannot find any further details regarding this particular painting and it's origins. Any guidance and/or information in this matter will be much appreciated. Cheers! ![]() |

I checked my records and cant find any artist, old master or otherwise,
whose name ends in "udas" or "vdas". |

The second stroke intrigues me. In google search, type Atlas, son of Tivdas. Part of a site to do with the Lyndian language comes up. Or am I being fooled, the artist has applied some creative licence to the signature? T Ivdas? TJudas?
It is a lovely painting. |

Thanks for the input thus far! I own a handfull of original paintings, but this particular one, although it is the smallest (approx. 16" x 12"?) is my favorite. However, I know nothing about it, including, as stated above, who the actual artist is. Now that I am planning a major move across the country, I am parting with a great many possessions, my paintings being among them. When I first aquired this painting, I was advised to never sell it for less than a certain amount, bc it is the work of an old master. Unfortunately, that is all I know about it. Anyone else out there have any ideas?

Well as far as the terminology goes, an "old master" is an artist from the period approximately 1500-1800, the pre-modern era. In other words, artists like Monet or Courbet are not "old masters" and neither is the person who painted this.
But it's a nice painting, and it might be by a skilled painter and worth a few bucks. From the signature and the style my guess would be that it's Eastern European from the early 20th century, but I could be quite wrong. |
