I'm not very good at this! Having posted my question, I have found three replies from: Eirene, saintmarc and Thatcomedian. However, against my name it shows 14 replies!!! Where on earth can I find the others? Also, I'm having trouble finding my own thread lately! I guess, I've failed the I.Q. test - a speciality of mine! Can someone please give me some advice - apart from shooting myself! I can only hope I find your reply to this one!!!!!!!

You originally posted in an ongoing thread, so maybe you're looking at the total number of replies in the whole thread rather than to your specific question.

Well John,
I seem to get more confused each time I use the site. Firstly, I can't now find my original question! Secondly, I found my way into it by going into Guy profile then clicking on 'Find all Posts by Guy'. However, now I can't find 'Guy Profile'! I think I'm losing it! How is one meant to use this site? instructions please. I'm sure it's simple. Probably, I'm trying too hard - an enduring problem with me. Thanks for your interest. Guy

Ah! Thanks John. that was helpful. I still don't know what happened to all those other replies that originally seemed to be next to my name on the 'questions page'. I think there must be a glitch, as under my name on the questions page was a number. That number, referred to someone else's question! Weird! Anyway, thanks again for you help. Very much appreciated.
Now, I still have to find the painting that started this quest. Best wishes, Guy

I'm curious. My original question which was posted on 2nd September is no longer shown at that date, or any other, on the 'Questions' section for Threads in Forum. Yet, there are other questions shown dated the same day that I entered mine. Why has mine gone missing? if someone logs on for the first time, how are they going to see my original question?
My second concern is that my name is shown in the column headed 'Most Recent Post' yet the title of the person asking that question is a number:
cj1112 - clicking on that question shows that it was placed by someone called Carol. ???
Anyway, my original question is still unanswered despite three kind people trying to help. Here it is . . .
I need help in finding a painting and the artist. The painting is one featuring a gathering of people with men in striped blazers and straw boaters. It is not Renoir's 'The Boating Party'. I remember that one man in a striped blazer and boater dominated the foreground. But, what is the painting called and who is it by? I have scanned the web looking at the impressionists and post impressionists but can't find it. Other people seem to know the painting to which I am referring but, like myself, can't come up with the name or the artist! Your help will be appreciated. Thanks, Guy

Has everyone given up on me? Eirene? Saintmarc? John? are you there? Anyone, surely someone knows the answer. Why is it that several people seem to know the painting but, like me not the title or artist? I've exhausted my search on the Internet and am all out of ideas. Am I doomed to spend the rest of my life wondering? Guy

You didn't start a new thread when you asked your original question. You replied to cj1112 thread and asked your question.

You can ask the moderator to move the replies you got in that thread to this thread.

Nice to hear from you again 'thatcomedien'. I thought everyone had given up on me! Sadly, the picture you include is not the one - no striped blazers or straw boaters! best wishes, Guy

Um . . . how do I contact the Moderator? Sorry, I'm obviously not up to speed on all this. Guy

Contact information is on the Artcyclopedia website here, but I think it would be more confusing to merge those replies into this thread. Since nobody has come up with the correct painting yet, let's just leave them where they are.

I won't say how much time I have spent on this one, however, I have looked at all of the above...hehehee. Guy...I am sure that somewhere down the street someone will come across this painting. Somewhere...sometime. Keep checking back. JMO

Kind Regards,
Eirene

Thank you John,
I'll do as you suggest. I have a feeling that this is the end of the road regarding my search. I'm grateful to those who have tried to help me in my quest. Sincere best wishes, Guy

I don't think it would be more confusing. It would be much less confusing. First of all, the person that started that other thread won't get notified every time someone responds to Guys question. Second of all, anyone coming across this thread is going to give some of the same guesses that Guy already said weren't it and if they come upon the other thread instead, they will give some of the same guesses as were given in this thread. Thirdly, Eirene asked for additional info about the painting and Guy answered that in the other thread.

Kind Regards,
Eirene

Eirene! How nice to hear from you again. Thank you so much for spending so much of your time searching. It's a real teaser isn't it! In my mind, it's such a familiar image. I just wish I could remember where I last saw it many years ago. How can it feel familiar when I and no one else can find it? Sigh! I've spent many, many hours on the Internet trawling through various artists work to no avail. I have even emailed the M.D. of Sotheby's! I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that he hasn't replied. Furthermore, why is it that so many people to whom I've spoken seem familiar with the image too but can't remember the name of the piece or the artist!!! Anyway, once again, thanks a million for your kind interest. Warm wishes, Guy

Thank you 'thatcomedian', Well, they all have a certain 'something' of the feel of the painting I'm after (as have so many others!). What I will say, is that sea doesn't feature in the background - a river perhaps but it's not a seaside image. Furthermore, the figures in Monet's 'At Sunlight' are about the right size. It was very much a people image with one man dominating the foreground in a striped blazer and straw boater. Best wishes, Guy

Oh dear, Between you and John, now I'm confused. Help! What is the right thing to do? I'm sure you are both giving me the advice in which you believe.
But, who am I meant to believe? Perhaps, the thing to do is for one of you, or both, to contact the mediator and ask him if you are correct. Perhaps, the mediator will then contact me or simply act accordingly. Well, just a suggestion. Thank you both for your advice. It is very much appreciated. Best wishes, Guy
